Dr. Malia Shimokawa

 

Dr. Shimokawa grew up in Kaimuki, graduated from Punahou School, the University of Notre Dame, and Creighton University School of Medicine. While in medical school, Dr. Shimokawa joined the Army, trained in pediatrics at Tripler Army Medical Center and served as an active duty pediatrician stationed in Italy and deploying to Iraq. Upon returning home to Hawai`i in 2012, she cared for children at Kapi`olani Medical Center, led the Cleft and Craniofacial Center, and continues as the Medical Director of the N.E.W. Keiki (Nutrition + Exercise + Weight Management) Program. Dr. Shimokawa is board-certified in pediatrics and in 2015 became the first pediatrician in Hawai`i board-certified in Obesity Medicine.
Dr. Shimokawa’s husband is from Aiea and she is proud to work at PCMA. They are avid sports fans and love to travel. They enjoy family time with their children at the beach, hiking, cooking Italian food, and reading stories.
